Auburn NH - AFD received calls of smoke coming from Browns Island which is located East of the Manchester Waterworks Water Treatment plant. When AFD arrived there was significant smoke showing and mutual aid from surrounding towns was called. The mutual aid departments brought boats, tools, and manpower to the scene. Water was pumped out of Lake Massabesic to aid in fighting the fire.
After two days of mutual aid responding the fire has been put out. The fire departments welcomed the assistance of some small rain showers.
The island is the property of Manchester Waterworks / watershed and is not supposed to be inhabited. Fire Fighters did find signs of people who have been on the island leading to determining the fire is suspicious.
