AMHERST, NH — Amherst police, fire, and EMS responded to Route 101 for a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles, with one vehicle on fire on September 25, 2026

The location of the crash was on Route 101 just west of the Merrimack Road overpass.

Upon arrival, they located two people who were deceased, one from a commercial oil tank truck and the other from an Acura sedan. The person driving a small truck with a utility-style body pulling a trailer was uninjured.

Amherst Police Chief Anthony Ciampoli said, according to witnesses and evidence at the scene, the Acura was traveling west when it crossed into the eastbound lane, struck the oil truck, and spun. The truck pulling the trailer struck the Acura, splitting it in half from the two impacts.

The oil truck has the capacity of carrying 3,000 gallons of fuel, it is unknown the exact number of gallons remaining in the truck. The oil was leaking; however, it has been mitigated and will be pumped off to another tanker truck.

As of 4;30 p.m., Route 101 was closed between Baboosic Lake Road and Route 101A, and is expected to remain closed for several more hours.

Several mutual aid fire departments are assisting at the scene and for station coverage. The NH Medical Examiner's Office, NH Dept. of Environmental Services, NH Fire Marshal’s Office, NH Department of Transportation, and New Hampshire State Police are also at the scene.
