NASHUA, NH — Nashua Fire Rescue, AMR, State Police, and Nashua Police responded to an automatic crash notification inside a vehicle on the F.E. Everett Turnpike on November 10, 2024.

Dispatch reported that at about 5 a.m., the notification came in, and they could hear a person moaning but could not communicate with the driver. Responders began to search the area of Exit 4 on the turnpike and initially did not locate the vehicle.

AMR ambulance crew located the vehicle up a steep embankment well off the road and near the Dunstable Road overpass. Medics updated the location and reported they could not access the driver due to the instability of the Toyota Matrix and extensive damage.

Nashua Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and began extrication, and the command requested that a medical helicopter land on the turnpike at the scene.

Boston MedFlight advised of a 15 to 20 minute response, firefighters continued the efforts to extricate the woman from the vehicle. The turnpike was shut down on the northbound side to establish a landing zone.

The victim, who was the only occupant of the car, was treated by AMR crews in the ambulance while awaiting Boston MedFlight.

After the helicopter landed the flight medics prepared the woman for transport and loaded her in the helicopter. The helicopter took off at about 6:15 a.m. and transported her to a Boston area hospital.

State police said it appears there was only a single vehicle involved in the crash and that the woman had severe injuries, but at this time, they did not appear to be life-threatening.

Based on evidence at the scene, it appears the vehicle veered from the turnpike, over the off-ramp, climbed the embankment, and hit the side of the bridge. The impact caused significant damage to the car's front and driver’s side.

The turnpike was reopened at about 6:25 a.m. after the Nashua fire apparatus cleared. The ramp remained closed as state police investigated the crash and removed the vehicle.
