FOM 2026-1670
HOLLIS, NH — A major residential fire in Hollis was brought under control Tuesday night, thanks to a sharp-eyed pilot and a massive, multi-town emergency response.
On June 16, 2026, at approximately 8:14 PM, an airplane flying overhead spotted a structure fire below. The pilot quickly notified the Nashua Airport Tower, who relayed the emergency to Nashua Fire Alarm and subsequently to Hollis Communications.
The Hollis Fire Department, alongside an automatic aid tanker from Brookline, was immediately dispatched to the intersection of Hayden Road and Rocky Pond Road.
Heavy Flames Spread Quickly
Upon arrival, emergency crews faced heavy fire pouring from the garage of a residential home, with flames already extending into the main living structure. Recognizing the severity of the situation, commanders quickly transmitted a first alarm to bring in essential reinforcements.
The initial call for mutual aid brought firefighters and equipment from several neighboring communities, including:
Milford
Nashua
Pepperell
Brookline
As the battle against the flames intensified, additional resources were requested above the first alarm, drawing a Merrimack Engine and a Brookline Rescue unit directly to the scene. To ensure the town remained protected during the incident, an Amherst Engine covered the vacant Hollis station.
Brought Under Control
Through the coordinated efforts of multiple departments, crews successfully contained the blaze. The fire was officially declared under control at approximately 9:15 PM, just over an hour after the initial dispatch.
Status Update: No injuries have been reported at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
