Manchester, NH — Manchester police, fire, AMR ambulance, and New Hampshire State Police responded to a report of an accident at the Interstate 293 north offramps at Granite Street on March 23, 2023.

Responders were advised CPR had been initiated on one person and another person was trapped in a car. Additional AMR ambulances were added to the call as other responding units worked to navigate through traffic that was gridlocked in all directions.

When units arrived just after 5 p.m. they found a passenger from a 2012 Acura TL on the ground with bystanders performing CPR. Despite efforts from bystanders and responders, the passenger of the car died at the scene. The man was identified as Michael Shattuck, 32 of Manchester by Manchester Police Sergeant Michael Donahue.

The driver of the car was a 35-year-old woman from Derry who was heavily entrapped and crews went to work attempting to extricate her. IVs were started on the driver and medics administered care as firefighters continued to extricate the person. After using Jaws of Life, and cutting tools for about 30 minutes, the person was extricated and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The 64-year-old Manchester woman driving the 2019 BMW X7 was visibly shaken but was ambulatory at the scene. Medics evaluated her at the scene and she was then transported to a local hospital where police say she was treated for minor injuries as a result of the accident.

State police and NH DOT closed the northbound offramp and Manchester police closed the Granite Street Bridge in both directions temporarily for five hours. Traffic was backed up in both directions on I-293 for miles.

Witnesses at the scene said that the Acura came off the southbound offramp at what they described as high speed. The Acura continued across the intersection and struck the BMW which was on the northbound offramp when it was struck head-on. Witnesses also said a third vehicle received near the BMW received minor damage, however, Manc
