MFD Awards Medal Of Gallantry To Lt. Craig Ferry, FF Chris Marich and FF Zach Marcoux
The incident took place on January 30, on 93 NB. Engine 3 had responded to Interstate 93N for a motor vehicle accident due to very icy conditions.
Upon arrival Engine 3 established command and discovered they had 1 patient in critical condition. FF Chris Marich was tasked with primary patient care.
Lt. Craig Ferry, the incident commander notified Fire Alarm that several accidents were continuing to happen as numerous vehicles were sliding on the ice as they approached the scene. The scene rapidly began to escalate in severity as a vehicle began to slide directly into the area where Engine 3 was parked and where Lt. Ferry, FF Zach Marcoux and FF Chris Marich were providing patient care. FF Chris Marich called out to Lt. Ferry and FF Marcoux, while continuing patient care, that an out of control vehicle was skidding towards them.
The car struck Engine 3 and collided with the original vehicle where the patient was being tended to. This collision injured FF Marich and Lt. Ferry. All members of the Engine 3 crew showed professionalism and courage, quite literally, under fire and it should be noted that their patient has made a full recovery. Because of their actions that day like to present Lt. Craig Ferry and FF Zach Marcoux with a Chief’s Award of Excellence and FF Chris Marich with a Medal of Gallantry.
