MFD, AMR and MPD responded to a reported building fire December 16th at 330 Porter Street. First arriving fire personnel reported heavy fire on the second floor of the two story wood structure. A second alarm was struck for additional manpower.
Initial companies made and aggressive interior attack coordinated with outside ventilation. Occupants notified command of the presence of two canines that were still in the structure. A search was conducted and located the canines, which were pulled from the building. Unfortunately, both dogs had succumbed to smoke inhalation and on scene resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Previous events at this address had left the attic space exposed. This resulted in rapid fire spread and increased intensity for firefighting personnel.
The fire is under investigation by MFD and MPD.
