MERRIMACK, NH — Firefighters in Merrimack were sent to a fire Tuesday from a condominium on Quails Way.

At 12:35 p.m., firefighters received a report of a structure fire on Quails Way, with smoke and fire coming from a condominium.

When Merrimack Fire arrived at 12:41, they immediately called for a working fire status bringing mutual aid from other cities and towns. Nashua Fire and AMR ambulance came direct to the scene of the fire.

Merrimack Fire Marshal John Manuele said firefighters made a rapid entry and searched for any occupants but found extremely hot and smoky conditions and a large kitchen fire burning hindering the search. As other units arrived crews began venting the building, attacking the fire and searching all 3 floors of the house.

During the search 2 large dogs were found, however they did not survive. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 1:02 PM, but crews continued to battle hot spots for some time.

The fire was declared under control at 1:11 PM and all units performed extensive overhaul and salvage operations until leaving the scene. Fire personnel removed the dogs from the home at the request of the homeowners. Mutual aid was received at the scene from a Nashua Engine and Ladder company and AMR Ambulance, and a Manchester Engine covered Merrimack while all Merrimack Units were committed. No firefighters or occupants of the home were injured.

Damage to the interior home was extensive, with the kitchen destroyed and the remainder of the house suffering heavy heat and smoke damage. The house is not currently inhabitable.

The last unit cleared the fire scene at 3:08 PM.
