A suspect is in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a parking lot directly across from the Manchester Police Department headquarters on Saturday afternoon.

The incident began around noon when police were alerted to the theft. Officers quickly broadcast the vehicle's description and spotted it near Arlington Street. When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Following a brief search, officers located an individual matching the suspect's description at the intersection of Bridge and Nashua Streets.

Investigators used photo evidence to confirm the person’s identity before taking them into custody. During a canvas of the pursuit path, officers recovered clothing and personal items discarded by the suspect.

Police searched the area where the suspect had fled from the car and quickly located articles of clothing and personal belongings that the person had left on the ground during the foot pursuit.

The vehicle was returned to its owner at the scene after police processed several items left inside by the suspect.
Charges and the suspect's identity have not yet been released.
