State and local officials held a press conference at McLaughlin Middle School in Manchester, NH to bring attention to “Operation Safe Stop”
The initiative is a targeted enforcement operation and outreach campaign reminding all drivers in BOTH directions to stop for the school bus. The focused operation is happening in twelve communities in NH.
Bus drivers have been gathering specific data of where people are not abiding by the law, and that information is being used for law enforcement to target the enforcement.
On the morning of the press conference a driver was stopped by MPD for not stopping and given a $124 ticket. The driver said they were not aware they had to stop for the smaller bus.
Speaking at the event was Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig, Richard Bailey, Jr. Asst Commissioner of NH Dept of Safety, NHSP Capt Nathan Noyes from NHSP Highway Enforcement, Sandy Rowe a bus driver with over 20 years of driving and acts as the Area Safety Manager, and Percy Abbott, coordinator of the NH School Transportation Association.
