WEARE, NH - Weare Fire, police, and EMS responded to a report of an explosion in the area of Sugar Hill Road and Concord Stage Road with reported injuries on April 27, 2023.

When responders arrived just before 7:00 a.m. they found a man suffering injuries from some sort of explosion from a device on the side of the road.

New Hampshire State Police Bomb Squad members immediately responded to the scene and requested that investigators from the US Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) respond to the scene.

The road was shut down, and the injured man was treated for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The explosion is the second being investigated in the town of Weare within 12 hours. Wednesday evening Weare Police worked with the New Hampshire State Police Bomb Squad in a wooded area off Dustin Tavern Road for what was described by several local residents as an explosion in a wooded area.

A large area was cordoned off with crime scene tape and authorities worked at the scene and cleared after about two hours.

Thursday’s explosion is believed to be a device that looked like some sort of pipe bomb. According to WMUR who interviewed a man, he saw something smoking on the side of the road. He pulled over his van and went to check on the item when it exploded injuring him.

Weare Police Chief Christopher Moore said that the investigation is being handled by the ATF and all information about the incidents will be disseminated through them.

ATF Investigators placed several evidence flags around the area where it appears Thursday’s explosion occurred. Evidence was being gathered and the scene was being documented by investigators.

At this time the road remains closed while the scene is being processed.
