The homeowner said the smoke detector woke him up just after 4 a.m.

He said he saw flames and smoke in the living room and immediately woke up his wife and 3-month-old daughter. The family was able to get out of the house, but two dogs didn't survive.

"When our officers did arrive on scene, there was a fully involved porch at that time, and our first responding crews did confirm there was a fully involved structure fire," Fire Chief Brian Allard said.

The homeowner told WMUR his family just moved into the house at 455 Tibbetts Hill Road a few weeks ago.

The fire went to two alarms, and firefighters from several towns were called to help out, officials said.
Allard said water supply was a challenge at the scene.

“We have limited water supply in this part of Goffstown, so we had to establish a water supply for continuous water to the scene. Right down the road, we do have a fire pond available to us that crews quickly set up a water shuttle supply operation,” he said.
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading into the woods and were able to save much of the garage. They worked through the morning to put out hot spots.

Investigators are working to figure out what started the fire.
