On March 2, 2021 at 09:37 am the Derry Fire Emergency Communications Division received telephone notification of a tree through the roof of a building at 107 Franklin St in Derry.
Derry Engine 1 arrived on scene and confirmed a large tree had caused structural damage to unit 8. The engine company requested assistance for one female patient with minor injuries and aiding the residents of unit 9 trying to exit the structure. A large portion of the tree was noted to be unstable on the front of the building. Derry Engine 3, Medic 1 and the Battalion Chief were added to the call.
The ambulance crew assessed and transported a female patient with minor injuries. There are 3 condominiums each with two floors within the building. All units were evacuated until the tree could be removed. The occupants of Unit 9 were assisted out but cutting and removing parts of the tree. The two residents of Unit 8 will be staying with family or friends until the damage is repaired.
Derry PD assisted at the scene and the Derry Building Inspectors assessed the structure. The homeowner’s association is working on having the tree removed and securing the structure.
The Incident number is 2021-0721 and the last fire units cleared at 11:09 am.
There were no Fire Department injuries.
