Logging Truck Collision Shuts Down Route 13 in Brookline
Driver Rescued After 2.5 Hours of Being Trapped by Live Wires

A multi-vehicle accident involving a logging truck and two passenger cars shut down Route 13 for several hours on Tuesday evening, leaving a truck driver temporarily trapped beneath live utility lines.

Emergency crews, including Brookline Police, Brookline Fire, and Brookline Ambulance Service, responded to the scene just south of Quimby Road at approximately 5:02 p.m.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a northbound logging truck had collided with two passenger vehicles before veering off the roadway. The impact snapped utility poles and brought down multiple power lines, which became entangled with the truck.

While a medical helicopter was initially requested, the response was canceled after emergency personnel established contact with the truck driver.

Although the driver was conscious, breathing, and alert, first responders ordered him to remain inside the cab for nearly more than two hours due to the extreme hazard of the live wires draping the vehicle.

The occupants of the two passenger cars were evaluated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

The Milford Fire Department was called to assist with their heavy rescue equipment. Crews were forced to wait for Eversource technicians, who arrived within 30 minutes to begin the complex process of de-energizing the grid.

Once the scene was rendered safe at 7:15 p.m., first responders successfully removed the driver from the cab. He was transferred to a waiting ambulance and evaluated for injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening.

In addition to the structural damage, the collision caused the logging truck to leak diesel fuel, prompting officials to notify the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services to oversee the containment and clean-up.
