MERRIMACK, NH - On September 3, 2021 Merrimack fire, and police were dispatched to Candy Lane Friday for a report of a house fire.

While responding units were en route just before 3 a.m. they were advised that the occupants of the house were evacuating. Merrimack Police officers were first to arrive and reported smoke coming from the house.

Two engines and an ambulance from Merrimack Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and immediately began setting up water supply from nearby hydrants. The closest available ladder truck was dispatched from Nashua, as well as an additional Nashua engine to assist Merrimack firefighters at the scene.

A hose line was stretched to the house and a fire was contained to one room of the house. Smoke that filled the house was ejected using fans set up in doorways.

Medics from the ambulance evaluated occupants who had escaped from the house, and no one required medical transport. 3 dogs that were in the house at the time of the fire were safely removed from danger.

The fire was brought under control and is under investigation by Merrimack Fire. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire.

Merrimack Fire currently does not have an operating ladder truck, requiring dispatch from mutual aid towns. The department also has reduced personnel to respond on the engines due to new staffing cuts instituted by the town.
