Man Cuts Gas Line Intentionally In Apparent Suicide

BEDFORD, N.H. -- Chief John J. Bryfonski reports that the Bedford Police Department issued a shelter in place advisory this afternoon after Bedford Police Officers and Bedford Firefighters responded to a medical call on Galloway Lane.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, police and fire units responded to Galloway Lane to check on an adult male. Responding police officers and firefighters found a male subject in the garage with a large knife. Officers and firefighters also detected a very strong odor of gas.

Concerned that an explosion could occur, officers and firefighters retreated, established a secure perimeter, evacuated the immediate area and issued a shelter in place advisory.

Bedford Police Officers subsequently approached the scene along with tactically equipped firefighters and determined the subject was deceased and the environment at the scene was safe for first responders.

As soon as the scene was secured the shelter in place advisory was lifted. There is no danger to the public related to this incident which remains under investigation by the Bedford Police Department.
