Merrimack, NH - June 6, 2018 Approx. 11:45 am
Merrimack Fire Rescue and Merrimack Police were notified by the School Resource officer of chemical incident with injuries at the Merrimack High School.
MFR arrived to the scene and were directed to a chemistry class where vapors from a chemical were filling the air, and according to MFD Chief Michael Currier a 17 year old female student who had burns to her hands.
Approx. 100 students in part of the high school identified as the new addition was evacuated. Merrimack Fire quickly was given the information on the chemicals involved and transported the 17 year old Senior to Southern NH Medical. The parent(s) of the student involved had been notified immediately.
MFR neutralized the chemical situation which had been part of a Advanced Placement Chemistry class doing a planned experiment with potassium chloride, sulfur, and charcoal. The air was monitored in the room where the incident occurred and adjacent rooms.
The all clear to return to the building was given within approx. 30 minutes.
