Manchester Police held an awards ceremony to recognize officers for outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty.
The Life Saving Medal is presented to Officer Michael Roscoe in recognition of his quick response, initial medical assessment and lifesaving efforts, which ultimately prevented a tragic outcome.
Just past midnight on March 2, 2017, Officer Michael Roscoe responded to Wilson Street for a reported fight involving multiple subjects. Upon arrival, Officer Roscoe found three subjects who had each been stabbed multiple times.
He immediately began a medical assessment of one of the subjects who was making minimal movement and only able to groan. Officer Roscoe found a substantial stab wound on the man’s chest and based on his prior medical training, Officer Roscoe felt the man was in grave danger. He quickly retrieved first- aid equipment from his cruiser and packed the wound as tightly as possible with gauze.
He then quickly moved on to evaluate a second victim who had sustained a similar stab wound, and Officer Roscoe once again packed the wound with gauze to prevent loss of blood.
Medical staff praised Officer Roscoe’s medical efforts, stating that had the victims not received the initial care provided by Officer Roscoe, the victims would have bled to death.
