MFD 2 Alarm 282 Dubuque St
2 Alarm Fire leaves 13 people homeless
A quick moving fire in the wall and attic at 282 Dubuque St left 5 families and 13 people homeless in a fire Tuesday morning at approx 8:45 AM. First arriving units had smoke showing but due to limited apparatus the first engine with water was coming from Engine 5 on Webster Street.
Fire Fighters searched the building for occupants and then located the fire in the wall of the third floor and the attic. Ladder trucks were set up to access the roof and ventilate so that the fire could be suppressed.
Several pets were safely removed from the building, as well as some of the belongings to the occupants. The Red Cross is assisting residences who were displaced. None of the renters have insurance.
The MFD advised the fire is not suspicious and is electrical in nature. More investigation will happen but it appears the fire started adjacent to a air conditioner in the window.
