PORTSMOUTH, NH — On March 11, 2021, Portsmouth police, fire, New Hampshire State Police and NH Marine Patrol responded Thursday to a body being spotted in the river off Four Tree Island

At approximately 10:18 AM a man and a woman were walking on Four Tree Island in Portsmouth when they observed a body in the water on the East side of the Island at the base of the jetty. The couple immediately called 911. Portsmouth Police and Fire Department responded and determined the victim to be deceased.

NH Marine Patrol Sgt, Steve O’Connor said the victim is an 80-yea-old male who was dressed in a jacket, jeans and work boots. He was retrieved from the water by Portsmouth Fire Department. Foul play is not suspected.

The name of the victim will be released after next of kin notifications are made.

Agencies involved in the investigation include Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department, New Hampshire State Police Troop A and New Hampshire Marine Patrol. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
