Seacoast Harley-Davidson Dedicates Training Range in Honor of Sgt. Phillip G. Miles
A large crowd gathered at Seacoast Harley-Davidson on Sunday to unveil a memorial plaque and dedicate the dealership’s motor training range in honor of the late Sgt. Phillip G. Miles, a man celebrated for his commitment to public service and his lasting impact on law enforcement across New England.
Sgt. Miles, a lifelong Seacoast resident, dedicated his life to his community, serving with both the Portsmouth and Lee Police Departments. He was noted as one of the first motor officers in Portsmouth, laying the groundwork for his career that would touch thousands of lives.
In 1998, Phil transitioned to a role at Seacoast Harley-Davidson in Police Sales & Leasing. His dedication transformed the department, growing it from serving a single agency to providing equipment and training to over 100 agencies across the region.
The dedication ceremony was marked by warm tributes from Phil's family. His wife shared humorous anecdotes and reflected on the profound positive influence he had on so many people, while his granddaughter read a moving poem.
Family members then unveiled the plaque, which beautifully captures his legacy. A quote on the plaque stated: "Cherished by all who knew him. His true passion was putting officers on the iconic Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycle and for over 30 years, he trained thousands. It is likely any motor officer you saw had been trained by Phil."
The inscription concludes by dedicating the area to his memory, "honoring the foundations he built and the countless lives he touched."
As a lasting tribute, a time capsule filled with mementos from friends, family, and co-workers will be placed on site.
Following the memorial dedication, a competition was held on the newly dedicated motor range, with riders navigating a challenging course marked by hundreds of cones—a fitting celebration of the training Phil held so dear.
