Kayaker Missing - Search To Resume Friday Morning
At 8:50 PM Manchester fire and AMR responded to a report of a missing kayaker on the Piscataqua River in the area of Electric Street. Upon arrival, they determined 4 adults were kayaking together when one adult female went under and did not resurface.
Her kayak remained in the area and the 3 people with her began to search and yell to shore for help. The area she went under is off a point on the river and the water is reported to be approx 30 feet deep. Water temperature at the time was approx 70 degrees.
MFD Rescue 1 launched two boats from the boat ramp under the Biron Bridge, while Engine 6 used boats belonging to people in the area to begin the search. Also, several area residents began searching the water in the area she went under.
The 3 remaining kayakers were brought to shore and interviewed to gather facts including exact location. MPD gathered critical facts for the searchers.
MFD District Chief Martineau requested assistance from Nashua Dive Team, NH Marine Patrol, NH Fish and Game, and NH State Police. Goffstown Fire and Goffstown Police assisted in searching the shoreline along the West bank and rail trail.
Nashua Divers launched their boat and put divers in the area which had been marked for where she went under. The divers searched the area until 11:30 pm at which time the search was called off for the night.
A new search will resume at 8:00 am by MFD, NH Fish and Game, and NH Marine Patrol.
No specific information on the victim will be released.
