Manchester Police held an awards ceremony to recognize officers for outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty.
Officer Michael Roscoe Jr., and Officer Richard Valenti Jr. were awarded The Life Saving Medal in recognition of their quick actions to render aid, ultimately preventing a tragic outcome.
Just after midnight on October 1, 2016, Officer Valenti and Officer Roscoe were conducting a motor vehicle stop when a car pulled alongside of them. The driver exited the vehicle and called for help; he was holding his left arm, from which he was bleeding profusely. The officers gave immediate medical aid by applying a tourniquet to stanch the flow of blood from a laceration to the man’s bicep. The man had sustained a severed artery when he was stabbed during a robbery.
Hospital medical staff reported that the officers’ quick application of a tourniquet had saved the man’s life.
