February 19th the Windham Fire Department conducted live fire training at #47 North Lowell Road that involved multiple fire training scenarios for firefighters before allowing two of the structures to burn in order to make way for a future development.
The purpose of these exercises was to provide valuable training for firefighters and our surrounding communities under realistic fire conditions. Firefighters have been continually training at this property for the past several weeks performing search and rescue skills, ventilation training and firefighter self-rescue techniques. Having the opportunities of these acquired structures strengthens firefighter skill level. These exercises also performed under real conditions, helps ensure that we are ready when a real-life emergency occurs.
Firefighters from Derry and Salem also participated in today’s training burn while firefighters from Pelham and Londonderry provided coverage of the town. Also present was the Southeastern New Hampshire Hazardous Materials Mutual Aid District Rehab Team who provided hydration services during the training and to refill air bottles. We greatly appreciate our mutual aid partnerships and could not conduct this type of training without their assistance.
We want to thank the Windham Police Department for traffic control during this training, and our thanks to Windham Town Administrator Michael Branley and Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Mark Samsel for taking time out of their day to come by and learn about the job of Firefighting.
We extend our thanks to the various media outlets for attending. With your photos and Drone coverage, you found ways to capture important moments on camera and from above. We envy your skills and would like to thank you all for doing such a great job for us!
I want to give special thanks to Assistant Chief Stephen Brady and Firefighter Don Cole for their coordinated effort in making this training day a successful one, and to all Windham firefighters who not only participated in today’s training but worked to prepare the structures for the many successful training evolutions that took place throughout the day. Your hard work, dedication and commitment made this day a successful one!
Thank you to the Public!! it was humbling to see the many people who came by to watch this training. It was especially nice to take the time to speak with the many children who came by to see all the trucks, firefighters, and the big fire!!

Thank you for all the continued support of YOUR Firefighters!
Sincerely,
Thomas McPherson Jr.
